The root and aerial parts of this species are used for medicine in some parts of the CAY region, including the middle Kuskokwim.  Some people chew the roots to help with respiratory problems and sinus infections.  Others make an infusion apply it with a spray bottle for the same purpose.   For more details, see the following publication by Dr. Jernigan and collaborators.
