Saxifraga oppositifolia

This was one of the earliest plants in Naukan to flower in the spring.  People gathered the pink blooms and ate them raw with seal oil and dried meat.  They could not be stored for long.  They are not currently gathered since they don’t grow around the villages where Naukan people now live.

В Наукане это растение цвело одним из первых. Розовые цветы собирали и ели сырыми с нерпичьим жиром и сушеным мясом. Для хранения они были непригодны. Сейчас ее не собирают, потому что там, где сейчас живут науканцы, она не растет.
