On September 19, ELOKA's Noor Johnson and Roberta Turraq Glenn from the Alaska Arctic Observatory and Knowledge Hub (AAOKH) were invited to the White House for the Year of Open Science Recognition Challenge Winners. Earlier this year, ELOKA was announced as the winner of the "Science to Serve Communities" category. The award recognizes the teamwork and collaboration that characterizes open science as an integral part of ELOKA. AAOKH, Calista Education and Culture (CEC), and the Yukon Inter-Tribal Watershed Council were part of the recognition as collaborating organizations on ELOKA's current National Science Foundation (NSF) award.
Johnson and Glenn presented on ELOKA and AAOKH through flash talks and discussion with agency representatives. Noor said, "It was a great opportunity to learn from other projects and agencies that are working to support open science, and a real honor for ELOKA to be recognized and get to share about our work alongside AAOKH at the White House!”
